Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Elementary School Teacher to join our ministry team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about sharing the love of Jesus through God's Word, educating young minds, fostering a positive learning environment, and supporting students' academic, spiritual, and social development.
Qualifications:
- Hold a degree in education.
- Hold a current teaching license in the state of Oregon or be working toward that certification.
- Successful completion of a background check.
- Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod training is preferred.
- Classroom experience preferred.
Expectations:
- The teacher will create and execute lesson plans that align with the curriculum and state standards.
- The teacher will maintain written records to monitor the assessment of students.
- The teacher will be responsible for their homeroom students, communicating with parents and keeping records.
- The teacher will manage their classroom space and classroom behavior in a way that upholds the school’s mission, vision, and purpose.
Spiritual Expectations:
- Teach faithfully the Word of God as set forth by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.
- Model Christian faith, as Christ modeled for us, to create an atmosphere of love and acceptance to lead others to Christ.
- Show respect and concern for all the missions and ministries of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, School and Child Care.
- Exemplify Christian discipleship, to live in Christian unity with the members of Pilgrim congregation and co-workers seeking to advance the knowledge of Jesus Christ at home and abroad.
- Teachers are expected to believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Their faith should be reflected in their teaching and their daily life.
- As members of the Christian family, they will actively demonstrate a concern for the body of Christ in the care they show for themselves, their personal family, the children committed to their care, their congregation, the church at large and those yet to be won for Christ.
- As good stewards of their time and talents, they will serve their family, students, church members, fellow Christians and non-members as God guides them in the opportunities He sets before them.
- Be faithful in their worship and sacramental attendance, actively and financially supportive of mission and ministry, involved with parish programs and people, and in general exhibit an interest and enthusiasm for their church and Pilgrim Lutheran Christian School.
- As a Christian teacher committed to Jesus Christ, the teacher will bear the unique responsibilities of the educational and evangelical implications of their calling.
Professional expectations:
As a professional teacher, they will demonstrate competence and aptitude in their field, qualify as certified for teaching by our Church and State and a willingness to keep growing through continuing education.
- The teacher will create an annual personal Professional Development plan.
- The teacher will maintain congregational involvement in a meaningful, visible, and positive way.
- The teacher will lead extracurricular student event(s)/activity(ies) to be decided in collaboration with the principal.
- The teacher will be involved in developing and executing the annual school improvement plan.
Teachers will serve in harmony and as team members with the principal, pastor(s) and staff of the congregation in developing and implementing an effective total ministry. The team relationship will be characterized by loyalty and cooperation in a common purpose and ministry for Christ. The team is accountable to the church council and the congregation.

Pay: commensurate with experience and education
