Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Shop Manager, perform journey level mechanical work, welding, and fabrication on commercial vehicles used to perform solid waste and recycling collection and processing. Perform periodic maintenance and safety inspections of CHP regulated equipment. Maintain yard equipment such as balers, compactors, conveyors and other support equipment such as loaders, forklifts and tools used in transportation, transfer and processing of waste and recycling materials. Perform major and minor repairs and fabrication of equipment utilizing all types of hand tools, cutting and welding equipment. Possession of a valid California driver’s license. This position will work our mid-day shift, which is scheduled: Monday - Friday, 10:00am - 7:00pm
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspect, diagnose, and locate mechanical difficulties on company automobiles and trucks, including automotive type heating and air conditioning systems.
- Determine extent of repairs.
- Replace or repair faulty parts.
- Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical difficulties with hydraulic and pneumatic systems on trucks and processing equipment.
- Perform electric and gas welding.
- Fabricate/Weld and modify parts.
- Prepare parts lists and estimate labor requirements.
- Maintain work orders with time and materials records.
- Must furnish own hand tools.
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have a valid California Driver’s License, with no more than 2 points for moving violations within 5 years and no DUI's or reckless within the last 7 years. Must have the ability to read, write, and speak English. Must be able to lift 70 pounds and be forklift certifiable. 2 consecutive years of experience required.
