Household Assistant
About Our Family
We are a Christian family with four young children, three of whom are homeschooled. We are looking for a dependable, hardworking, and flexible Household Assistant to help our home run smoothly and serve alongside our family in the day-to-day needs of a busy household.
This is not strictly a housekeeping, nanny, or personal-assistant position. It is a hands-on household support role, and responsibilities will vary from day to day based on what the family needs most.
Because this person will work closely with our children and in our home, we are looking for someone who shares our Christian faith and values and will reinforce the character, attitudes, and standards we are teaching our children.
Schedule
- Approximately 4 hours per day, Monday–Friday
- Hours will fall within an agreed-upon daytime window each day
- No regular evenings or weekends
- Occasional evening or weekend help may be requested in the future, but would be sporadic and arranged in advance
Responsibilities
The Household Assistant will help wherever needed to keep the household organized, clean, and functioning well. Responsibilities may include:
Children & Family Support
- Changing diapers and assisting with basic care of younger children
- Helping children clean up toys, school materials, bedrooms, and personal belongings
- Leading and teaching the children to take responsibility for picking up after themselves rather than simply doing everything for them
- Providing occasional babysitting and supervision
- Helping maintain a peaceful and orderly environment during the homeschool day
- Assisting with other child-related needs as they arise
Household Upkeep
- Washing, folding, and putting away laundry
- Loading and unloading the dishwasher and keeping the kitchen tidy
- General tidying and resetting rooms throughout the home
- Organizing closets, cabinets, children's belongings, and other household areas
- Making beds and helping keep bedrooms orderly
- Cleaning different areas of the home on a rotating schedule throughout the week
- Identifying things that need attention and taking initiative rather than always waiting to be asked
Errands & Household Support
- Grocery and household shopping
- Running errands
- Picking up or dropping off items as needed
- Helping maintain household supplies and identifying items that need to be restocked
- Assisting with miscellaneous household projects and tasks

- Hardworking and willing to jump in wherever help is needed
- Naturally organized and attentive to details
- Able to see what needs to be done and take initiative
- Comfortable receiving direction while also working independently
- Patient and kind with children while maintaining appropriate boundaries and expectations
- Willing to lead children in helping with household responsibilities
- Comfortable with a role where priorities may change from one day to the next
- Respectful of the family's privacy and confidentiality
Requirements
- Pastoral reference required
- Additional personal and/or professional references
- Reliable transportation and ability to run local errands
- Valid driver's license and appropriate automobile insurance if driving is required
- Ability to safely care for and supervise young children
- Willingness to complete a background check
- Agreement with and ability to support our family's Christian values within the home
What Success Looks Like
The goal of this position is not simply to complete a checklist of chores. We want someone who becomes a trusted part of the rhythm of our household.
A successful Household Assistant will notice what needs to be done, help keep the home orderly, encourage our children to participate in caring for their home and belongings, and reduce the amount of day-to-day household management required from Mom and Dad.
The ideal person has the mindset of: "What would be most helpful to the family today?"
Pay: $18.00 per hour
