Role: Lead Carpenter/Superintendent
Hours: 20-30 hours per week starting. Opportunity may lead to 40 hours/week.
Rate: Hourly based on experience ranging from $35-$50 p/hour
Role Description: Little Corner Construction is a Durham-based, worker-owned cooperative specializing in residential remodels and additions. We work closely with clients to help them envision, plan, and construct projects that range from new kitchens and baths to whole home remodels and additions. Each project we take on is custom in nature to fully meet our clients vision and needs and requires creativity and a high level of attention to detail. As a cooperative business, we are dedicated to the success of the coop and excellence in the design and construction of our work.
We are looking for a lead carpenter/ superintendent to oversee the construction phase of our high end, custom remodel projects. This role will collaborate with the project team to execute the design with structural integrity, craftsmanship, and professionalism.
Position Requirements:
- Minimum 3-5 years of carpentry or residential remodeling experience or minimum 3 years experience in project management role
- Proven experience in kitchen, bathroom, addition, screened porch projects
- Bilingual or willing to learn and develop Spanish/English speaking skills
- Strong layout, framing, and finish carpentry skills
- Able to read architectural and site plans competently
- Accountable and solutions-focused orientation
- Reliable transportation

- Demonstrate strong leadership and team management skills
- Highly organized, detail oriented, and deadline driven
- Professional client communication and capacity to work in an occupied home while under construction
Primary Responsibilities:
Carpentry
- Framing
- Installation of trim, doors, windows, and hardware
- Execute construction tasks and repairs as needed to maintain the progress of the project
Superintendent
- Maintain safety procedures and policies of the company
- Supervise subcontractors and maintain high level of quality craftsmanship
- Perform quality control checks throughout the entire construction phase
- Ability to communicate professionally with clients, local officials, and industry members
- Meet inspectors
- Consistent site prep setup, house protection, and site cleanliness including daily cleaning before close for the day if clients are living in the house
- Receiving and inspecting deliveries and occasional materials returns
Project Management
- Collaborate with the Project team in creation of the construction calendar
- Manage the construction schedule and make changes in collaboration with the General Contractor, including regular communication updates with Project Team
- Your day may include laying out framing, installing trim, coordinating materials, leading one to three team members, walking a homeowner through a question, resolving a field condition, reading plans, or making sure the site is ready for the next trade.
