Plans and provides evidence-based learning experiences for students in alignment with the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future; provides an atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, physical, and socio-emotional development of students; and implements instruction consistent with the goals and mission of Somerset County Public Schools (SCPS). The educator will foster conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and mathematical reasoning while implementing the Revised Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS) and the MTSS Framework.
Curriculum & Instruction: Delivers instruction according to the 2025-adopted Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS) for Mathematics, focusing on the coherent progression of foundational numeracy and algebraic thinking.
Integrated Pathways: Prepares students for the transition to the Integrated Algebra sequence and supports secondary math pathways (Quantitative Reasoning, Data/Statistical Reasoning, and Calculus).
Tiered Support (MTSS): Implements a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for Mathematics to provide data-driven, responsive, and differentiated instruction for all learners, including those requiring intervention, enrichment, or acceleration.
Assessment & Accountability: Incorporates formative and summative data, including results from the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP), into daily and long-term instructional planning to ensure students meet the College and Career Readiness (CCR) Standard by the end of 10th grade.
Numeracy Development: Utilizes the MSDE Numeracy Development Framework to guide grade-level expectations and targeted interventions.
21st Century Skills & Technology: Integrates instructional technology and modeling tasks to develop 21st-century competencies, emphasizing reasoning, estimation, and real-world problem-solving.
Equity & Inclusion: Eliminates exclusionary tracking by ensuring all students have equitable access to rigorous, grade-level content and personally meaningful advanced pathways.
Parental Engagement: Provides required notifications regarding student numeracy progression and maintains ongoing, transparent communication with families as mandated by the PreK-12 Maryland Mathematics Policy.
Professional Growth: Participates in the Maryland Effective Mathematics Educator course and other state-mandated professional learning focused on the revised standards and the Blueprint initiatives.
