Position Overview
Experienced Soils Engineer, P.E. responsible for geotechnical and environmental aspects of site development and infrastructure projects. The role focuses on soil mechanics analysis, site investigations, laboratory testing, and design of foundations, slopes, and retaining structures while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and ASTM standards. The engineer will prepare technical reports, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and manage project deliverables from investigation through construction support.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct geotechnical site investigations including borehole logging, sampling, and in-situ testing to characterize subsurface conditions.

Perform soil mechanics analyses for bearing capacity, settlement, consolidation, lateral earth pressures, slope stability, and groundwater effects.

Develop foundation and earth-retaining structure designs (e.g., shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, pile systems) in accordance with applicable codes and standards.

Plan and oversee laboratory testing programs and interpret results for use in design and reporting.

Prepare clear, detailed geotechnical and environmental engineering reports, calculations, and construction specifications.

Apply environmental engineering principles to assess contamination risks, recommend mitigation measures, and support permitting and regulatory compliance.

Ensure designs and testing follow ASTM standards and other relevant industry specifications.

Provide construction-phase support including site observations, contractor guidance, and review of submittals and as-built conditions.

Utilize AutoCAD or similar software to produce and review geotechnical drawings and cross-sections.

Coordinate with clients, civil engineers, environmental specialists, and regulatory agencies; communicate technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.

Manage project scope, schedule, and budget; mentor junior engineers and delegate tasks as needed.
Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field; Masters preferred.

Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (required).

Demonstrated expertise in Soil Mechanics (required) with 5+ years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience.

Experience in Environmental Engineering practices as they relate to site assessments, remediation planning, or regulatory compliance (required).

Proven experience with site investigation methods, laboratory testing interpretation, and construction materials evaluation.

Strong working knowledge of ASTM standards and geotechnical testing protocols.

Experience in foundation design, slope stability analysis, and design of retaining structures (nice to have).

Proficiency with AutoCAD and common engineering software for geotechnical analysis (e.g., SLOPE/W, PLAXIS, GeoStudio) preferred.

Excellent technical report writing skills and ability to present findings clearly.

Project management experience, including client coordination, budgeting, and scheduling (nice to have).

Valid drivers license and ability to travel to project sites; fieldwork capability.
