Overview
We are looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined farm hand to join our family farming operation near Jetmore, KS. This position includes crop production, cattle care, center pivot irrigation systems, equipment maintenance, and repair.
We're looking for someone who enjoys figuring out why equipment isn't working and takes pride in getting it back in the field. If you're self-motivated, enjoy solving problems, and don't mind working hard during busy seasons, we'd like to hear from you.
Duties
- Operate and maintain tractors, sprayers, hay equipment, center pivot irrigation systems, loaders, forklifts, and other farm equipment.
- Diagnose, maintain, and repair John Deere tractors, sprayers, and other farm machinery.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on GM pickups, trailers, ATVs, and other farm vehicles.
- Assist with planting, spraying, irrigation, haying, and harvest operations.
- Perform field repairs on equipment to minimize downtime during seasonal operations.
- Load chemical shuttles, fill sprayers, and safely handle agricultural chemicals according to label requirements.
- Inspect and maintain fences, gates, center pivots, and other farm infrastructure.
- Feed, monitor, and care for a 215-head cow-calf operation, including observing animal health and assisting with routine livestock care.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, spraying operations, livestock treatments, and daily activities.
Qualifications:
- Is dependable, honest, and self-motivated.
- Understands the seasonal demands of farming and is willing to work evenings and weekends when needed.
- Notices problems before they become expensive.
- Has strong mechanical aptitude and enjoys troubleshooting equipment.
- Works safely and takes pride in quality workmanship.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience troubleshooting John Deere tractors, sprayers, and precision agriculture equipment.
- Experience maintaining GM pickups and farm vehicles.
- Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical repair.
- Welding and fabrication skills.
- Experience repairing and maintaining center pivot irrigation systems, including chemigation equipment.
- Experience operating heavy equipment and forklifts.
- Animal husbandry experience, particularly with beef cattle.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
The ideal candidate has experience maintaining John Deere tractors and sprayers, repairing GM pickups, troubleshooting hydraulic and electrical systems, and assisting with cattle and crop operations. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys solving problems, working independently, and taking pride in keeping equipment operating during the busiest times of the year. Competitive hourly wage starting at $20 -$25/hour, depending on experience.
