Job Description Director of Support Services Position Summary:
The Director of Support Services is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and oversight of the Dietary, Housekeeping, and Laundry Departments. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality nutritional services while maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment for all residents. The Director is responsible for regulatory compliance, staff supervision, budgeting, quality improvement, infection prevention practices, and ensuring all support services contribute to the health, safety, and quality of life of the individuals served.
Although responsible for all three departments, this position places a primary emphasis on the planning, coordination, and oversight of Dietary Services to ensure residents receive nutritious, appetizing meals that meet physician orders, dietary requirements, and individual preferences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Dietary Services (Primary Responsibility)
- Direct and oversee all daily operations of the Dietary Department.
- Ensure meals are prepared and served in accordance with physician orders, therapeutic diets, resident preferences, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with the Registered Dietitian to implement and monitor nutritional care plans.
- Ensure menus meet federal, state, and facility nutritional standards.
- Monitor food quality, temperature logs, portion control, sanitation, and food safety practices.
- Maintain compliance with food storage, preparation, labeling, and sanitation requirements.
- Ensure the kitchen operates in accordance with infection prevention and food safety standards.
- Oversee purchasing, inventory management, and food cost control.
- Maintain adequate food and supply inventories while minimizing waste.
- Conduct routine inspections of kitchen equipment and coordinate repairs as needed. Investigate and resolve resident concerns related to meals and food service.
- Ensure special events and holiday meals are planned and executed successfully. Monitor departmental quality indicators and implement performance improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all dietary documentation is completed accurately and timely.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and ongoing education to dietary staff.
Housekeeping Services
- Direct and supervise housekeeping operations to maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe living environment.
- Develop cleaning schedules and ensure completion of assigned duties.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention standards and environmental cleaning protocols.
- Conduct regular inspections of resident rooms, common areas, and facility grounds.
- Monitor inventory and purchasing of housekeeping supplies.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of waste and hazardous materials.
- Respond promptly to environmental concerns and corrective actions.
- Assist with emergency cleaning procedures when necessary.
Laundry Services
- Oversee daily laundry operations to ensure timely processing of resident clothing, linens, and facility laundry.
- Ensure proper sorting, washing, drying, folding, labeling, and distribution of laundry.
- Maintain infection prevention standards for handling soiled linens.
- Monitor linen inventory and replacement needs.
- Ensure laundry equipment is properly maintained and serviced.
- Investigate and resolve lost or damaged clothing concerns.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Train, supervise, and evaluate departmental employees.
- Schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage while maintaining budget expectations.
- Conduct routine departmental meetings.
- Promote teamwork and positive communication between departments. Implement departmental policies and procedures.
- Monitor employee performance and provide coaching and corrective action when necessary.
- Maintain employee Food Handler Certifications
- Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and resident-centered service.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all required records, logs, and documentation are maintained.
- Manage departmental budgets. Monitor expenditures and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.
- Approve departmental purchases.
- Maintain inventory controls and reduce unnecessary waste.
- Ensure equipment is maintained in safe working condition.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and facility regulations. Maintain readiness for state surveys and inspections.
Safety and Infection Prevention
- Promote a safe work environment for staff and residents.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, infection prevention, and workplace safety regulations.
- Conduct routine environmental rounds.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Food Service Management, Hospitality, Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of Two years of supervisory experience in dietary or food service management; long-term care experience preferred.
- Experience supervising housekeeping and laundry operations is preferred. Knowledge of CMS, state regulations, sanitation standards, and infection prevention practices.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple departments and priorities simultaneously.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in kitchen, laundry, and housekeeping environments.
- Ability to respond to emergencies outside normal working hours as needed.

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
