Ever noticed that the best firms rarely seem to be hiring?
That's usually because people don't want to leave.
This independent regional CPA and consulting firm has built exactly that kind of reputation. People join early in their careers, develop alongside experienced mentors, and often stay for years. Leadership stays close to both the work and the people, creating the sort of environment where you're recognised for your contribution rather than feeling like another name on a spreadsheet.
As a Senior Tax Accountant, you'll work across individuals, partnerships, and corporations, but this isn't a role where you'll spend all day preparing returns. You'll work directly with clients, spot planning opportunities, support junior accountants, and become increasingly involved in advisory work as your experience grows.
The work is varied, the expectations are realistic, and you'll have the opportunity to manage assignments from planning through completion while continuing to build strong client relationships. It's the sort of role that gives you more responsibility without throwing you in at the deep end.
The firm is proud of its long term culture, with clear progression, approachable leadership, and mentoring that's part of everyday life rather than a box ticking exercise. You'll also benefit from covered parking and half day Fridays outside busy season once your hours have been met.
They're looking for someone with around 2 to 5 years of public accounting tax experience, a CPA or EA that's completed or in progress, someone comfortable managing multiple priorities, and someone who enjoys building relationships with both clients and colleagues.
If you're just browsing the job boards and you haven't dusted off your resume yet, that's not a problem. Give me a call first on 312-564-5028. Or, if you prefer, send me a connection request or message on LinkedIn (Lucy Weibel at Distinct), and we can chat there instead.
If you're in accounting and unsure whether to apply because you don't meet every single requirement, I would still encourage you to apply. We work with CPA firms that are committed to building diverse, inclusive workplaces, and if this role is not quite right, there is a good chance I will be working on another opportunity that is.
