Universal Associate is a part-time position of anywhere between 20-28 hours per week as determined by management. The pay period is every two weeks. The store is closed for all major holidays, so this may affect the hours of the Associate. The first 90 days of employment are on a trial basis (called the probationary period). After the initial 90-day probationary period, a review is conducted by the Store Manager. At this time, the position may be shifted into a permanent position, as is determined by attendance and performance.
Position Summary:
The Universal Associate serves as a flexible team member who assists in multiple operational areas of Helping Hands. This position primarily supports the Lead Donations Coordinator but may be assigned to perform Food Pantry Coordinator and Cashier duties as needed. The Universal Associate must be adaptable, dependable, and willing to learn all areas of store and pantry operations.
- Responsibilities of the Universal Associate include:
- Assist with receiving, sorting, pricing, stocking, organizing, and displaying donated merchandise.
- Receive and thank donors, process donations, and maintain donation areas.
- Inspect, sanitize, sort, and evaluate donated items for quality and resale value.
- Assist with unloading, loading, moving, and organizing donations, food items, furniture, appliances, and supplies.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment throughout the store, food pantry, donation areas, restrooms, break room, and workspaces.
- Operate cash register and Point of Sale systems, process customer transactions, and provide excellent customer service when assigned to cashier duties.
- Balance cash drawers, check bills for counterfeits, and follow all cash-handling procedures.
- Assist with stocking, inventory management, food box preparation, food distribution, and pantry organization.
- Help unload deliveries, stock shelves, rotate inventory, and ensure food is stored safely and properly.
- Assist with Thursday food distribution, food order receiving, and pantry operations as needed.
- Support volunteers and community service workers by providing assistance when directed.
- Break down cardboard, remove trash, maintain clear walkways, and complete general housekeeping duties.
- Assist with opening and closing duties as assigned.
- Help maintain store displays, shelves, jewelry counters, racks, and specialty departments.
- Lift and move boxes, bags, furniture, and other items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Participate in employee meetings and training opportunities.
- Respect and maintain confidentiality of Helping Hands, volunteers, partners, donors, and clients.
- Coordinate with and report to the Store Manager, Assistant Manager, and Executive Director.
- Event support (fundraisers, food drives, community outreach)
