PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Porter, Janitorial Services is responsible for performing nightly cleaning of all AFI Campus buildings, including the collection and disposal of trash and recycling. This role works collaboratively within a team environment under the supervision of the Supervisor, Janitorial Operations, ensuring that all campus facilities are maintained in accordance with AFI’s cleanliness and operational standards.
The Janitorial Services team plays a vital role in maintaining the overall cleanliness, safety, and upkeep of all buildings across the AFI Campus.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for the AFI community, and visitors to the AFI Campus.
- Perform detailed nightly cleaning of all campus restrooms
- Restock restroom supplies, including paper products, soap dispensers, and deodorizers.
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors throughout all campus buildings on a nightly basis.
- Empty all trash and recycling receptacles and transport waste to designated campus dumpsters each night.
- Maintain cleanliness of campus kitchen and breakroom areas, including refrigerators and microwave ovens.
- Perform routine dusting of window blinds and windowsills throughout campus buildings.
- Dust and clean stairways, railings, and conduct periodic high dusting in interior spaces.
- Inspect campus facilities, grounds, and building entryways for trash, debris, or safety concerns.
- Report hazardous or unsafe conditions to Facilities and Plant Operations teams.
- Perform periodic power washing and deck scrubbing of all building entrances and stairways as needed.
- Respond promptly to emergency and routine cleaning requests.
- Check unoccupied rooms for items left behind; turn in any valuables or personal belongings to Security for the Lost and Found.
- Secure cleaned areas and ensure spaces are properly closed upon completion of nightly duties.
- Monitor department email communications and respond to service requests in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of janitorial or custodian experience required.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in a fast-paced environment when interacting with a variety of personalities.
- Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Experience maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in a commercial or educational setting.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact respectfully with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to complete assigned tasks thoroughly and efficiently.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining consistent quality of work.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Good verbal communication skills and ability to follow instructions clearly.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when working in occupied spaces.
- Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to climb stairs and move throughout multiple campus buildings.
- Ability to work outdoors and withstand exposure to varying weather conditions when required.
