: Part time. 8 hours per week. The Nurse will administer FDA-approved medication-assisted treatment (MAT) medication and perform related nursing services in county jails for incarcerated individuals within 4 months of release. The Nurse will:
- Dispense appropriate MAT medication in accordance with prescriptions and clinic policies and procedures for in-jail services.
- Record all doses dispensed and account for all medication used during a shift.
- Accurately record patient details in the electronic medical records system.
- Monitor charts for dose discrepancies and take corrective action when needed.
- Monitor other health related matters for all patients and assigned units, including making outside referrals when appropriate.
- Attend treatment team meetings.
- Work with a multidisciplinary treatment team that includes other substance abuse counselors, nurses, physicians, and county sheriff and jail leadership and staff.
- Work with staff to ensure compliance with staff and patient health and safety standards.
This is a grant funded position.
QUALIFICATIONS: The selected candidate will be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and have a current New York State Nurses License. The nurse must be a Registered Nurse (RN) with a medications license. Previous experience with drug abuse treatment is preferred. The selected individual must have strong patient services skills and the ability to: communicate highly effectively via both verbal and written communications, work independently in a stressful environment, respond professionally in stressful situations, relate well with a diverse patient population, and be able to work supportively with incarcerated individuals and recently released offenders. Candidates must have strong arithmetic skills and be familiar with electronic health records and fully computer literate. Candidates with knowledge of/experience supporting Medication-Assisted Treatment (methadone, buprenorphine/Suboxone, naltrexone/Vivitrol) plans is strongly preferred. Knowledge of community resources is preferred. Local travel within the immediate tri-county region to jails will be required. Travel outside of the tri-county region may be required occasionally. Valid NYS driver’s license and method of transportation required. Must be addiction free, including tobacco. Pre-employment background check/post offer drug screening required.
