UConn Health Center is looking to hire a full-time Student Worker for a temporary assignment in the Crocker Laboratory located in our Neuroscience department.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Performs a limited range of related duties in conducting laboratory, provides support for assigned research projects.
May assist higher level research staff on assigned projects.
Receives trainee assignments in designated research protocols, procedures, techniques and equipment.
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
Must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma and be enrolled in one of the following degree programs - Associate, Bachelor or Master's, Graduate Program, PhD.
Basic knowledge of research protocols, principles and procedures.
Basic knowledge of scientific techniques such as tissue culturing, reagent/solution preparation, histology staining, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, quantitative PCR, and genotyping.
Basic knowledge of experimental design, mathematics, statistics, computer applications, laboratory equipment and procedures.
Basic knowledge of a science such as; chemistry, biology, microbiology, pharmacology.
Basic knowledge of physical and data resources in application scientific disciplines.
Oral and written communication skills.
Ability to identify, produce, organize, analyze, evaluate and interpret data.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
General Experience:
Shall be an undergraduate student actively enrolled in study in a related field, i.e., BA or BS in Biology, Medical Technology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience. Degrees in other areas may be substituted on a case-by-case basis

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Incumbents in this class may be occasionally required to lift heavy objects such as standard laboratory equipment and/or trays/boxes or glassware
May be exposed to such hazards as broken glass, toxic vapors, radioactive materials, and toxic or disease carrying substances.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to verify current student status in formal accredited program upon hire. Acceptable documentation to include either a letter from academic advisor on letterhead; or a course schedule listing current term of enrollment, name of educational institute and student's name.
SCHEDULE:
This is a temporary position. This position is full-time, up to 15 hours per week. Flexibility in schedule may be needed to work around experiments as needed and only with mutual agreement.
Anticipated start date is September 7, 2026. The duration of this appointment will be until May 7, 2027, and may be less or continued based on need. Due to the special nature of this position, continuous employment cannot be guaranteed.
SALARY: The hourly rate for this position is $20.00. This position is not eligible for benefits.
