About the Opportunity
We are seeking experienced Fiber Optic Splicing Technicians to support data center and telecommunications infrastructure projects in Texas, Virginia, and other project locations as needed.
This is a contract (1099) position for skilled professionals who can work independently while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. Projects may require extended travel and flexible scheduling, including nights and weekends when necessary.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, splice, terminate, and test fiber optic cables in data center and telecommunications environments.
- Perform ribbon and loose tube fiber splicing using both single and mass fusion splicing techniques.
- Conduct fiber testing using OTDRs, optical power meters, light sources, and other testing equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair fiber optic network issues and out-of-specification splices.
- Install and organize fiber within splice enclosures, cabinets, communication shelters, and rack environments.
- Read and interpret splice diagrams, construction prints, and network documentation.
- Label, document, and maintain accurate fiber records.
- Maintain a safe work environment and follow all customer and site-specific safety requirements.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, customers, and fellow technicians.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of professional fiber optic splicing experience.
- Experience working in data center environments is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with ribbon and loose tube fiber.
- Experience using fusion splicers, OTDRs, power meters, and related fiber testing equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair fiber optic networks.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass customer-required background screenings and drug testing when required.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.
- Contractors must maintain general liability insurance and provide proof of coverage prior to assignment start.
Travel Requirements
- Primary work locations include Texas and Virginia.
- Frequent travel is required based on project assignments.
- Contractors are responsible for their own transportation, lodging, and travel-related expenses unless otherwise agreed upon for a specific project.
- Must be available to work days, nights, weekends, and emergency call-outs as project schedules require.
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
- Stand, walk, kneel, bend, crouch, and climb ladders for extended periods.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Work in confined spaces when necessary.
- Distinguish fiber color codes accurately.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and fiber optic testing equipment.
