American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification for 12-hour night shifts.

Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU — travelers will not float into the CVICU side unless experienced in that specialty

Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases — diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma

Heavy trauma population with a preferred (not required) background in cardiac care, including CABG/TAVR post-op (24–48 hrs); fresh open heart cases are reserved for permanent staff

Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3

Utilizes Epic (required), Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter pumps), and Omnicell
-
12-hour night shifts at 48 hours per week — this schedule is non-negotiable for this unit

Every other weekend rotation is the goal, though not guaranteed

No on-call requirements

Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor, including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio, if overstaffed

Active RN license in South Dakota or a compact state license currently in hand

Minimum 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience (candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside the ICU may be considered with management approval)

Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC — candidates unwilling to obtain TNCC prior to start will not be considered

Epic EMR experience required

Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic line management; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry
-
Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity team environment

Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
-
Cardiac experience (CABG/TAVR post-op) preferred but not required
-
Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration

DOB and SSN required for consideration

First-time travelers are not eligible — a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required

Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible

Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning in a travel capacity

Orientation consists of a hospital orientation, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift in the ICU
-
Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, respiratory therapy available 24/7, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, and ICU charge RNs placing all midlines
-
Physician coverage includes 3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights, plus an APP on nights

No RTO will be approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)

Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved, provided the contract is extended to cover a full 13-week duration

May be expected to precept students
