JOB SUMMARY
The Materials Manager at North Mississippi Health Services leads the daily operations of the Materials Management department, overseeing procurement, inventory control, and vendor coordination. This role includes direct supervision of staff, budget planning, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. As a key member of the management team, the manager is responsible for optimizing departmental performance, fostering team development, and supporting organizational goals through effective supply chain leadership.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Management Responsibilities
- Manages and provides direct supervision to Materials Logistics Clerks/Technicians and other personnel within the Materials Management department.
- Oversees daily departmental operations, including procurement of supplies and capital equipment, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and budgetary guidelines.
- Evaluates vendor quotes and negotiates pricing for facility equipment and supply needs to ensure cost-effective purchasing.
- Directs the acquisition, storage, and distribution of materials and products across the facility to support operational efficiency.
- Manages courier logistics and maintains vendor relationships, including those with vending service providers.
- Oversees accounts payable functions for the department, including invoice coding and reconciliation, ensuring compliance with financial policies.
- Leads onboarding and training initiatives for departmental staff; actively participates in required in-services, performance improvement activities, and continuing education programs.
- Performs additional managerial duties as assigned, demonstrating leadership, initiative, and a commitment to service excellence.
- Participate in long-term planning for capacity, demand forecasting, and risk mitigation.
- Use predictive analytics to inform decision-making on inventory levels and supplier readiness.
- Lead initiatives to integrate ERP or supply chain management software.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve supply chain workflows, logistics, and inventory systems.
- Analyze performance metrics and identify inefficiencies in procurement, distribution, and fulfillment.
Budget Oversight
- Develops and implements the department’s annual operating budget; collaborates with other departments to support their budget planning through cost analysis and procurement recommendations.
- Monitors and controls departmental expenditures, including labor and operational costs, to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints and financial targets.
Records and Compliance
- Maintains comprehensive records for the Materials Management department, including all accounts payable documentation, in accordance with internal audit and accounting standards.
- Ensures compliance with safety and regulatory requirements by maintaining up-to-date MSDS records and asset tracking logs for all new hospital equipment.
- Oversees documentation and disposition of obsolete equipment and supplies; manages service contracts and vendor agreements to ensure continuity of service and compliance.
