A member of the American Montessori Society for over 25 years, Love of Learning Montessori has offered traditional non-denominational Montessori instruction in a wooded setting on Centerport Harbor. Serving 110 children, Love of Learning is devoted to developing students’ self-motivation, independence, curiosity, and cooperation. Unique to our curriculum is the use of our 15-acre outdoor wooded space, used both for instruction, recess, and family events. The woods and the shore are our hallways. Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Lead Early Childhood Montessori Teacher to lead a Montessori classroom with passion, creativity, and a deep commitment to fostering children's holistic development. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of Montessori principles and practices, excellent leadership skills, and a genuine enthusiasm for creating a nurturing and stimulating learning environment.
Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Implementation: Implement the Montessori curriculum in a mixed-age Early Childhood classroom, fostering children's intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and practical life development.
- Classroom Leadership: Lead and manage all aspects of the Early Childhood classroom, including planning, organizing, and facilitating daily lessons and activities in collaboration with assistant teachers and the Early Childhood team.
- Prepared Environment: Prepare and maintain a rich, beautiful, and inviting Montessori environment that supports independence, concentration, exploration, and a lifelong love of learning.
- Montessori Materials: Present and care for a wide range of Montessori materials across Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Cultural Studies, Science, Geography, and the Arts.
- Individualized Instruction: Observe and guide each child according to their individual developmental needs, interests, and readiness, providing lessons and support that foster growth and confidence.
- Observation and Assessment: Conduct ongoing observation and assessment of children's academic, social, emotional, and developmental progress using Montessori assessment tools and documentation practices.
- Parent Communication: Establish and maintain positive, professional, and collaborative relationships with families through conferences, progress reports, classroom communications, and ongoing dialogue.
- Community Building: Foster a peaceful, respectful classroom community that promotes grace and courtesy, problem-solving, empathy, responsibility, and independence.
- Professional Development: Remain informed of current Montessori practices and child development research through professional development, mentorship, collaboration, and reflective practice.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, organized, and nurturing environment that supports children's self-discipline, responsibility, and respect for themselves, others, and the environment.
Qualifications
Montessori Certification: Completion of a recognized Montessori Early Childhood teacher training program (AMI, AMS, MACTE-accredited, or equivalent) required.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field required.
Experience: A minimum of 2–3 years of experience working with children ages 3–6 in a classroom setting preferred.
Passion for Montessori Education: Genuine enthusiasm for Montessori philosophy and a deep understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
Leadership Skills: Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to guide classroom staff, inspire children, and contribute positively to the school community.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills with students, families, and colleagues.
Creativity and Flexibility: Creative, thoughtful, and adaptable approach to supporting children's learning and responding to the evolving needs of the classroom community.
Outdoor Education Appreciation: An appreciation for nature-based learning and the valuable opportunities outdoor experiences provide for exploration, observation, and discovery.
