Responsibilities
- Assist with food preparation and meal service in accordance with dietary guidelines and safety standards
- Ensure proper handling, sanitation, and storage of food items to maintain food safety and hygiene standards
- Support the dietary team by bussing tables, cleaning dining areas, and maintaining cleanliness in kitchen and food service areas
- Follow safe lifting practices when handling heavy trays or supplies to prevent injury
- Work closely with nursing staff to accommodate special dietary needs for residents with specific health conditions or restrictions
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately during all food handling and cleaning tasks
- Maintain accurate documentation related to food production, sanitation routines, and resident preferences
Skills
- Previous experience in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or the food industry is highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of food safety protocols, sanitation practices, and workplace safety regulations (including JCAHO standards)
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks safely and efficiently, including heavy lifting and safe lifting practices
- Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with food preparation techniques, meal service procedures, and kitchen operations
- Experience working with geriatric patients or in dietary departments is preferred
- Effective customer service skills with a compassionate approach toward residents’ needs
- Knowledge of nutrition principles relevant to elderly populations or those requiring specialized diets
