Senior Storage & Data Infrastructure Engineer

We're looking for an engineer to join a leading trading firm in Chicago to help build and scale the storage and data platforms that power one of the most performance-sensitive environments in the world. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working close to Linux, distributed systems, and large-scale storage infrastructure.
Unlike many infrastructure roles, your work will have direct visibility and impact. What You'll Do

Design, build, and operate large-scale storage and data platforms

Develop and maintain infrastructure services and tooling in Python and Java

Optimize Linux systems for throughput, latency, and operational efficiency

Engineer reliable storage solutions using open-source, enterprise, and S3-compatible technologies

Build automation for infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and lifecycle management

Drive observability initiatives using Prometheus and related monitoring tools

Partner closely with engineering teams supporting large-scale data and streaming platforms, including Kafka

Influence architecture and technical direction as data volumes and platform demands continue to grow
What We're Looking For

6+ years of experience in systems, infrastructure, storage, or distributed systems engineering

Strong Linux fundamentals and performance troubleshooting experience

Professional software development experience in Python and Java

Experience building operational tooling, platform services, or infrastructure applications

Experience with distributed storage technologies such as Hadoop, Ceph, S3-compatible storage, or enterprise storage platforms

Experience automating environments with Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, or similar technologies

Familiarity with Kubernetes and containerized infrastructure

Experience with Prometheus, monitoring, and observability platforms

Strong understanding of scalability, reliability, and performance in production environments
