Qualifications-
A Screen Printing Darkroom Technician prepares screens for printing by coating, drying, and exposing them with film positives, ensuring a light-safe, dry, and controlled environment for creating stencils, managing emulsion, and reclaiming screens, all vital for high-quality production. They work with UV-blocking lights and specialized equipment like washout booths and drying racks, maintaining quality and adhering to safety protocols in a critical pre-press role.
Key Responsibilities
- Screen Preparation: Applying emulsion, drying screens (often with fans/dry boxes), and taping off edges.
- Image Exposure: Aligning film positives with screens and exposing them to UV light to burn the image onto the stencil.
- Developing & Washing Out: Washing screens at a washout booth to reveal the open image.
- Reclaiming Screens: Removing emulsion from used screens for reuse.
- Quality Control: Inspecting screens for defects, ensuring correct artwork reproduction, and checking for proper exposure.
- Environment Management: Maintaining the darkroom's light-tightness, controlling humidity (ideally <40%), and ensuring proper airflow and temperature.
- Inventory & Maintenance: Managing emulsion, tape, and cleaning supplies; basic upkeep of darkroom equipment.

Skills & Qualifications
- Attention to detail, especially in low-light conditions.
- Ability to work in a production environment, often standing.
- Understanding of light sensitivity and emulsion properties.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for common screen issues.
- Physical ability to lift screens and equipment.

Work Environment
- A dedicated, light-proofed room with amber or UV-safe lighting.
- May involve handling chemicals (emulsion, reclaimers) and working near washout stations.
- Focus on meticulous processes to create perfect stencils for the printing press.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour
