Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Scientific Glassblower with expertise in quartz and Pyrex (borosilicate) glass. This role involves precision fabrication, modification, and finishing of glass components for laboratory, semiconductor, industrial, and custom commercial applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Quartz glass lathe work
Perform precision saw cutting, including longitudinal cutting of quartz and Pyrex tubing and rods
- Produce ground and beveled edges to exact specifications
- Execute fire polishing of glass ends for smooth, high-quality finishes
- Seal one or both ends of glass tubes using high-temperature torch techniques
- Fabricate custom tubing and rod lengths up to 14 feet
- Design and manufacture custom quartz and Pyrex components, including:
- Semiconductor quartzware (ampules, plugs)
- Laboratory glassware and apparatus
- Create and cut glass components for various applications, including:
- Sight glass and brewery equipment
- Repair, modify, and maintain existing glass apparatus and components
- Interpret technical drawings, sketches, and customer specifications
- Ensure precision, structural integrity, and quality control of all finished products
- Maintain safe operation of glassworking equipment and tools

Qualifications:
- Proven experience in scientific glassblowing, specifically with quartz and borosilicate (Pyrex) glass
- Strong understanding of glass fabrication techniques, including cutting, sealing, and finishing
- Ability to operate torches, lathes, and cutting equipment
- Experience producing both scientific and custom commercial glass products
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- High attention to detail and craftsmanship

- Formal training or certification in glassblowing

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
