American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a teaching hospital near Chicago, IL, requiring 2+ years of ED experience and night shift availability.

Work in a 24-bed Emergency Department at a 231-bed teaching hospital located approximately 30 minutes from Chicago
-
Patient population spans neonates through geriatrics with common presentations including minor traumas (MVAs), sepsis, STEMI, stroke, DKA, mental health, respiratory issues, cardiac issues, and AMS
-
Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5; the 5th patient is low acuity and occurs during surge periods

Travelers are not expected to work the triage area

12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation required; back-to-back weekends are rare
-
No on-call or call-back responsibilities

No floating required

EMR: Epic (experience preferred); IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; bedside and central station monitoring

Schedule is built in 4-week increments and released 1–2 weeks in advance; no self-scheduling or block scheduling; variable start times possible

Active IL RN license required

Current BLS and ACLS required; PALS preferred

Minimum 2 years of ED experience required; first-time travelers accepted with 2+ years of ED experience

Most recent experience must be within the last year

Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV insertion, EKG acquisition, and basic ED drip and medication administration

One professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN collected within the last year required for consideration
-
Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Provide emergency nursing care across a broad acuity range including cardiac, neurological, respiratory, and mental health presentations

Department support includes ER Techs (1:10–12 ratio), a Charge RN, Rapid Response Team, phlebotomy for difficult draws, and hospitalists

Orientation includes a brief onboarding session with a unit educator for system access and modules, followed by 1–2 shifts on the unit
-
Holiday coverage required: 2 of 3 summer holidays (Memorial Day, Labor Day, July 4th) and 1 from each winter group: {Thanksgiving Day or day after}, {Christmas Eve or Christmas Day}, {New Year's Eve or New Year's Day}

Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved during the contract

Scrubs must be navy blue

No artificial nails or nail extenders permitted; natural nail tips must be kept under ½ inch
