Purpose Statement: This instructor engages students in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth in various aspects of music, and teaches techniques that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible young men and women. Skills include general music understanding and appreciation, theory, keyboarding, music history, harmony development, explorations in music and choral music to pupils. Develops various Choir Groups and teaches general music electives. Coordinates with other professional staff members, both within and outside grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
Essential Functions
- Teaches the district-approved music curriculum in alignment with state standards and district expectations.
- Plans and delivers engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction that meets the diverse needs of students.
- Develops lesson plans, instructional materials, and differentiated learning experiences.
- Establishes and maintains a safe, positive, and productive learning environment.
- Assesses student learning, maintains accurate records, and communicates student progress with parents and staff.
- Collaborates with colleagues, administrators, paraprofessionals, and families to support student success.
- Teaches music appreciation, vocal, instrumental, and/or choral music, as assigned.
- Plans, organizes, and directs rehearsals, concerts, performances, and other music-related events.
- Selects appropriate music literature and evaluates student musical growth and performance.
- Maintains musical instruments, equipment, music library resources, and instructional technology.
- Integrates instructional technology to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Supports school programs, assemblies, performances, and special events as assigned.
- Maintains professional competence through ongoing professional learning.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the building principal or designee.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises classroom, students, and volunteers.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor of Arts Degree, 2 years of Choir Leadership experience preferred; Music Technology experience preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Teaching Certification Required
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.
