JOB CLASSIFICATION TITLE: OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
DEFINITION
Under the supervision of the Calaveras County SELPA Director or designee, the Occupational Therapist will assess, plan, develop and provide appropriate intervention services for students with disabilities in Calaveras County.
ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS
- Coordinates and provides occupational therapy services to students; maintains a safe and orderly treatment area.
- Evaluates students using standardized tests, non-standardized assessment tools, and observations, to determine eligibility for occupational therapist services.
- Reviews reports from health care providers requesting occupational therapy and coordinates occupational therapy services with students’ health care providers. Develops appropriate intervention goals and treatment plans to assist students with increased participation in their educational program.
- Collaborates with medical personnel in coordination of medical care protocols and acts as a resource to school personnel in interpreting occupational therapy services and implementing instructional strategies in the classroom.
- Participates in Individualize Education Plan (IEP) meetings by reporting and discussing student’s progress and evaluation results.
- Consults with teachers and IEP members in order to provide strategies, modifications, and adapted equipment in the classroom as appropriate.
- Re-evaluates students’ individual occupational therapy goals and treatment plan on a regular basis.
- Collaborates with parents regarding occupational therapy services and home programs to work on occupational therapy goals.
- Complete student service logs and provide to SELPA office on a monthly basis.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to use a variety of modern methods, techniques and practices in occupational therapy.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to properly use and to care for the materials, supplies and equipment employed in performing services as an occupational therapist.
- Understanding of the physical, intellectual, social and emotional growth patterns of students and their parents.
- Understanding of and sensitivity to the unique differences and needs of the disabled students and their parents.
- Ability to work effectively with district/COE personnel, community representatives and students.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:
- Valid certification as Occupational Therapist issued by the National Board for
- Certification in Occupational Therapy.
- Valid and appropriate California Special Education Teaching Credential authorizing service to students with Physical and Health Impairments highly desired; however, not required
- Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Valid California driver’s license.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Experience working with children desirable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this position must have:
- hearing and speaking to exchange information;
- seeing to read a variety of materials;
- bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students;
- the ability to walk long distances;
- perform work which involves the frequent lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects which may approximate 50 pounds and may occasionally weigh up to 100 pounds;
- sitting or standing for extended periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Employees in this position will be required to work indoors and outdoors in a school environment and come in direct contact with students, district staff and the public
SALARY: Special Education Licensed Specialist Positions Salary Schedule, 185 days.
