Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and energetic Yard Mule and Container Handler Operator to join our logistics team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for efficiently maneuvering yard equipment to load, unload, and transport containers within the port or distribution center. Your expertise in heavy equipment operation, warehouse management systems, and materials handling will ensure smooth operations and safety compliance. Responsibilities
- Operate yard mules, reach trucks, clamp trucks, Hi-Lo forklifts, and other heavy equipment to load and unload containers safely and efficiently.
- Handle container movement within the yard, ensuring proper stacking, storage, and retrieval according to warehouse protocols.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and basic repairs to maintain optimal performance and safety standards.
- Assist with order picking, shipping & receiving activities, and materials handling tasks using various warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks and order pickers.
- Maintain accurate records of container movements, inventory updates in warehouse management systems, and shift reports.
- Follow OSHA safety guidelines diligently during all operations to promote a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues.
- Collaborate with warehouse supervisors to coordinate logistics activities, optimize space utilization, and improve overall workflow efficiency.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment such as reach trucks, lift trucks, clamp trucks, Hi-Lo forklifts, or similar machinery in a warehouse or distribution setting.
- Strong knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS) and materials handling procedures.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic equipment repairs and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards related to forklift operation and heavy equipment use.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including heavy lifting, stacking containers, and operating pallet jacks or order pickers for extended periods.
- Basic math skills for inventory counts, measurements, and documentation accuracy.
- Warehouse experience with shipping & receiving processes, order picking, and container handling preferred.
- Excellent communication skills with a proactive approach to safety compliance and teamwork.
