Substance Abuse Counselor – Outpatient & Intensive Outpatient Services
Part‑Time | Hybrid Work Schedule
Position Overview
The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for delivering high‑quality behavioral health services within the clinic’s Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Outpatient (OP) programs. This position ensures the provision of clinically appropriate group and individual counseling, adherence to documentation standards, and the implementation of evidence‑based practices to support client recovery. The role requires consistent collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to promote coordinated, person‑centered care.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
● Facilitate structured IOP and OP group therapy sessions utilizing approved
evidence‑based modalities.
● Conduct individual counseling sessions focused on treatment planning, relapse
prevention, and skill development.
● Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans with measurable, clinically
appropriate goals.
● Complete documentation in accordance with state regulations, accreditation standards,
and organizational policies.
● Monitor client progress and adjust treatment interventions as clinically indicated.
● Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care and
effective case coordination.
● Provide crisis intervention and safety planning when required.
● Deliver psychoeducation on addiction, recovery, coping strategies, and available
community resources.
● Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and required professional development
activities.
● Uphold ethical standards, confidentiality requirements, and culturally competent care
practices.
Minimum Qualifications
● Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Human
Services, or a related field.
● Active state certification such as CAC‑AD, CSC‑AD, or ADT.
● 3–5 years of experience providing treatment in co‑occurring outpatient settings.
● Demonstrated knowledge of ASAM criteria, DSM‑5 diagnostic considerations, and
evidence‑based treatment modalities.
● Proficiency in group facilitation and management of group dynamics.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills.
● Ability to maintain professional boundaries and adhere to ethical guidelines.
● Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred.
● CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
