Position Summary: The Cemetery Grounds Crew Member is responsible for maintaining the appearance, safety, and cleanliness of cemetery grounds. This position performs landscaping, burial preparation, marker placement, equipment operation, and general grounds with professionalism, and attention to detail.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Mow, trim, edge, and maintain cemetery lawns, gardens, and landscaped areas.
- Prepare gravesites for burials, including excavation, setup, and restoration of the site following interment services.
- Install and remove burial tents, chairs, artificial turf, lowering devices, and other funeral service equipment.
- Assist with monument, marker, and vase installations as directed.
- Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, tractors, backhoes, excavators, dump trailers, and utility vehicles.
- Perform grounds cleanup, including removal of debris, fallen limbs, litter, and seasonal maintenance.
- Maintain roadways, walkways, drainage areas, and cemetery structures.
- Perform minor repairs to fencing, signs, irrigation systems, and cemetery property.
- Assist with locating gravesites and providing courteous assistance to families and visitors when needed.
- Observe and follow all safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and company policies.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, construction, excavation, or heavy equipment operation preferred.
- Ability to safely operate power tools and heavy equipment.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in various and extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work respectfully around grieving families during funeral services.

- Ability to read maps and follow detailed burial instructions.
