Director of Business Development & Product Commercialization
Location: Elmsford, NYCompany: Nolix
About the Role
Nolix is a technology company developing innovative IoT, sensing, monitoring, inspection, and energy-efficiency solutions for commercial, industrial, and residential applications.
We have developed a portfolio of products and technologies, including solutions for water monitoring, pest monitoring, property inspection, data-center energy efficiency, and industrial measurement and inspection.
We are looking for a highly entrepreneurial Director of Business Development & Product Commercialization to take these technologies from developed products and successful prototypes into the market.
This is not a traditional Product Manager position and it is not primarily a technical project-management role.
The successful candidate will be commercially driven and responsible for identifying markets, finding customers and channel partners, developing pilot opportunities, closing initial sales, and building repeatable go-to-market strategies for multiple products.
What You Will Do
You will take ownership of the commercial development of several Nolix products and technologies.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Identify the best target markets and customer segments for each product.
- Develop and execute go-to-market strategies for new products.
- Identify and contact prospective customers, distributors, integrators, strategic partners, and channel partners.
- Generate leads and actively build a sales pipeline.
- Conduct customer outreach through phone, email, LinkedIn, trade shows, industry associations, and direct networking.
- Present and demonstrate technical products to prospective customers.
- Understand customer problems and determine how Nolix technology can solve them.
- Develop and manage proof-of-concept projects and customer pilots.
- Convert successful pilots into commercial orders and longer-term customer relationships.
- Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, distribution arrangements, and partnership opportunities.
- Determine appropriate pricing and business models, including hardware sales, recurring subscriptions, and service-based models.
- Identify OEM, private-label, licensing, and distribution opportunities where appropriate.
- Work closely with engineering to translate customer feedback into practical product improvements.
- Develop sales presentations, product positioning, proposals, ROI models, case studies, and other commercial materials.
- Attend relevant industry trade shows and conferences.
- Track opportunities from initial contact through pilot, proposal, negotiation, and closing.
- Help determine which products and markets deserve the greatest commercial investment.
- Eventually help recruit and manage additional sales and business-development resources as product lines grow.
Products and Markets
The position will initially work across several technology areas, including:
IoT & Smart Building Solutions
- DripX – water and leak monitoring
- TrapX – smart pest monitoring
- InspectX – property inspection and temporary monitoring solutions
Data Center & Energy Efficiency
- Technologies for monitoring and reducing energy consumption in server racks and data-center environments
Industrial Measurement & Inspection
- Optical and stroboscopic measurement technologies
- Portable industrial inspection and measurement devices
- Technologies comparable in application to products such as the Fluke 812 stroboscope
Additional technologies and products are continuously being developed.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who combines technical understanding with a strong sales mentality.
The ideal candidate enjoys taking a new technology and answering:
Who will buy this?
Why will they buy it?
Who is the decision-maker?
How do we reach them?
What pilot will convince them?
What should we charge?
How do we turn the first few customers into a scalable business?
Preferred Background
- 5+ years of experience in B2B business development, technical sales, commercialization, or strategic sales.
- Proven experience selling technical products or solutions.
- Experience developing new markets rather than simply managing existing accounts.
- Comfortable selling products that may not yet have an established sales process.
- Experience generating leads and opening doors independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both engineers and business executives.
- Strong presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience developing pilots, proof-of-concept programs, or early customer deployments.
- Experience with IoT, industrial technology, energy management, building technology, data centers, sensors, electronics, or automation is highly desirable.
- Experience working with distributors, integrators, OEMs, or channel partners is a plus.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to operate effectively in a fast-growing technology company.
What Success Looks Like
During the first 6–12 months, success will be measured by:
- Building a qualified pipeline for each priority product.
- Establishing relationships with target customers and channel partners.
- Launching paid pilots and proof-of-concept deployments.
- Converting pilots into commercial orders.
- Identifying the strongest markets and applications for each technology.
- Establishing repeatable sales processes for successful products.
- Generating meaningful new revenue from Nolix technologies.
The Ideal Candidate
This role is particularly well suited for someone who has worked in technical sales or business development for an industrial technology, IoT, automation, instrumentation, energy-management, building-technology, or electronics company and wants the opportunity to commercialize multiple new technologies rather than sell a single established product.
