Patrick Henry House, located in Jetersville, VA, is seeking a dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team on a part-time basis. As a Substance Abuse Counselor, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals affected by substance use disorders. This part-time position requires availability during evenings, holidays, and weekends. You will work closely with clients to provide counseling, education, and resources to help them overcome challenges and achieve their recovery goals.
Duties

Conduct thorough intake assessments and diagnostic evaluations to determine clients' substance use history, mental health status, and treatment needs
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and behavioral therapy techniques
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, mental health support, and relapse prevention
- Engage in crisis intervention and crisis management to ensure client safety and stability during challenging moments
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate case management, discharge planning, and community resource linkage
- Participate in ongoing research initiatives and data collection efforts to monitor treatment outcomes and improve service quality
Skills
-
Proven experience in addiction counseling, clinical counseling, or behavioral health settings with a focus on substance abuse recovery
- Strong knowledge of psychotherapy modalities including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and relapse prevention strategies
- Familiarity with crisis intervention strategies, crisis management protocols, and trauma-informed care
- Ability to perform assessments, diagnostic evaluation, and case management effectively within a residential setting
- Experience working with home & community care programs, hospital environments, or outpatient clinics is highly desirable
- Proficiency in medical terminology, medical documentation practices, and understanding of ASAM treatment model and HIPAA compliance standards
- Excellent communication skills for conducting intake interviews, patient education, family counseling (child & family counseling), and group therapy sessions
