Lewis Kappes is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our Lending & Finance team and assist with the closing of SBA-financed commercial transactions nationwide.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in building a career in commercial lending and transactional law. The Legal Assistant will work closely with experienced attorneys, paralegals, and closing professionals while gaining hands-on experience with commercial loan transactions from initial due diligence through closing and funding.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with the preparation of commercial loan and closing documents
- Ordering and reviewing title commitments and related title documentation
- Ordering UCC, lien, judgment, and other due diligence searches
- Assisting with the review and organization of entity and transaction documents
- Preparing and balancing settlement statements and disbursement schedules
- Coordinating signatures and closing logistics
- Responding to client needs and monitoring outstanding requirements and deadlines
- Communicating with attorneys, lender clients, title companies, borrowers, and other transaction participants
- Assisting with funding and post-closing matters
- Helping ensure transactions move efficiently and accurately toward closing
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, or paralegal degree/certificate required
- Prior experience in a law firm, bank, title company, or commercial lending environment is preferred, but not required
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently in a fast-paced team environment
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines with exceptional attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills coupled with a customer service-oriented approach
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software applications for document preparation and communication
- Willingness to learn and take ownership of increasing responsibilities
No prior SBA lending experience is required. We will provide training to the right candidate.
