JOB SUMMARY: Greets visitors to the Ocean Star Museum and is a host/guide to visitors - explaining the basic building layout, and an introduction to the museum's mission, as well as assisting with any special needs or questions. This position carries two primary responsibilities: museum docent/greeter, and special tour guide.

The Ocean Star is retired jack-up drilling rig that operated in the Gulf of Mexico from 1969 to 1984 and drilled over 200 wells during that timeframe. In 1995, the Oilfield Energy Center purchased the Ocean Star, and after lengthy refurbishment, opened it as a museum in 1997.
HOURS: Part-time hourly, not eligible for benefits. Staff are scheduled to work 15-30 hours per week on average, between the hours of 9:30 AM to 5:30PM, with an emphasis on Friday through Sunday. Longer hours may be available during peak tourist season (Memorial Day to Labor Day), during tours or special events, and as assigned. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, year-round except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
JOB DUTIES:
Carry out opening and closing procedures for the museum facility, including doors, lights, audio video components and breakers.
Routinely assist with prearranged guided group tours for school children, senior, and adult groups.
Provide comprehensive information about the Ocean Star and the Oilfield Industry, particularly where directly related to the current museum exhibits. Training will be provided.
Monitor appearance of the museum by checking restrooms periodically for paper supplies and fill as needed, perform light housekeeping as needed to maintain daily appearance of the public spaces, replenish brochures, and inform relevant staff or management promptly of other visible site needs that may arise.
Assist with compliance to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for museum visitors with special needs.
Flexible to scheduled or unscheduled groups and works closely with staff to assure a positive experience for visitors of all ages.
