Duties
- Oversee the management and maintenance of electronic health records (EHR) and medical records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and accessibility.
- Ensure compliance with all health information regulations, including privacy laws such as HIPAA, and implement clinical confidentiality policies across the organization.
- Supervise the HIM team in coding medical records accurately using medical terminology and ensure proper documentation for billing and reimbursement purposes.
- Coordinate with clinical staff to support medical office operations, including patient record retrieval, data entry, and documentation updates.
- Monitor adherence to health regulation policies and participate in audits related to health information regulatory compliance.
- Manage records retention schedules, secure storage of sensitive information, and oversee destruction processes in accordance with legal requirements.
- Collaborate with billing departments to optimize revenue cycle management through accurate coding and documentation practices.
- Provide training on EMR/EHR systems, healthcare privacy protection protocols, and medical coding standards to staff members.
Requirements
- Proven experience in health information management or a related healthcare setting with a strong understanding of medical office workflows.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for reporting, documentation, and communication purposes.
- In-depth knowledge of health regulation policies, healthcare privacy laws (such as HIPAA), and health information regulatory compliance standards.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and EMR/EHR management tools used in healthcare facilities.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, medical coding practices, and clinical confidentiality policies.
- Excellent customer service skills to support internal teams and external auditors effectively.
- Experience in records management, revenue cycle processes, and healthcare data security protocols.
- Ability to lead a team efficiently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
