West Valley Cleanup Alliance is the prime contractor selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Phase 1B Deactivation & Demolition Contract at the West Valley Demonstration Project site. The site is a scenic 30-minute drive south of Buffalo, New York. In cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, West Valley Demonstration Project continues to decontaminate and decommission facilities at this site.

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Industrial Hygienist will assist with the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, prevention, and control of environmental factors or workplace stresses that may cause illness, impaired health, or significant discomfort among employees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Grade 32:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, engineering, chemistry, physics, or related science/engineering field

Minimum of five (5) years of related professional experience or recognized equivalent
Grade 34:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, engineering, chemistry, physics, or related science/engineering field

Minimum of nine (9) years of related professional experience or recognized equivalent
Licenses/Certifications:
-
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) highly preferred
Other Requirements:
-
Thorough knowledge of industrial hygiene theories, principles, techniques, and policies

Ability to apply independent judgment to solve complex problems
-
Ability to establish priorities and work under broadly defined procedures

Ability to justify, defend, negotiate, or resolve significant or controversial issues

Ability to interface with employees, management, and external organizations
-
Ability to deliver presentations to employees and leadership as required
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/SCOPE OF WORK

Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following established safety practices and procedures

Adhere to Company Code of Conduct, EEO practices, and DOE directives

Identify potential safety hazards including ventilation, lighting, and exhaust systems

Evaluate employee exposure to hazards such as noise, lead, and asbestos

Recommend corrective measures to ensure maximum employee protection

Collaborate with Safety, Radiation Protection, and Occupational Medical teams
-
Prepare reports documenting observations, exposure analysis, and corrective recommendations
-
Participate in employee training and educational meetings related to occupational health
-
Conduct assessments of Industrial Health program elements

Assist department management with program improvements and corrective actions

Maintain regular attendance

Contribute to team efforts as needed
