POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Claim Technical Specialist ("SCTS") is a high-impact role focused on investigating, evaluating, negotiating and settling serious injury/damage claims involving complex coverage and large loss exposures in multiple jurisdictions. The SCTS will evaluate coverage considerations, applicable laws and regulations, claim resolution approaches and report to management and reinsurers within necessary timelines and guidelines.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDING

Reviewing new claim reports and determining initial plans of action.

Analyzing coverage relating to the facts and allegations of claims and preparing Reservation of Rights and Declination of Coverage letters, as applicable.

Pursuing all culpable parties, providing them with formal notice and seeking contribution from such responsible entities as appropriate.

Identifying serious injury/damage losses and reporting them timely to upper management and reinsurers.

Evaluating all claims as the investigation develops; establishing and adjusting reserves as warranted, reserving commensurate with the claim exposure.

Reviewing all expense bills for appropriateness, accuracy and adherence to Company billing guidelines within the Company's e-billing system.

Identifying subrogation opportunities and ensuring efforts are undertaken, where appropriate, to recover against responsible parties.

Directing counsel in the defense of litigated claims in accordance with established litigation plans and legal budgets.

Negotiating claims to settlement and attending mediations, settlement conferences and trials.

Functioning as the subject matter expert, mentoring claim examiner trainees and new claim examiners.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Demonstrated ability to deal with significant/complex coverage matters, including contractual risk transfer and additional insured issues.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Very strong negotiation, critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.

Outstanding customer service orientation, while demonstrating careful attention to details and an ability to multi-task.

Strong computer skills, including the ability to work effectively in the claims management system and strong knowledge of Microsoft applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel).

Ability to exercise independent judgement with moderate supervision in handling claims within reserve and settlement authority.

Ability to travel as business necessitates (including for mediations, settlement conferences and trials).
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required: A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college/university, with a major or coursework in insurance, economics or related fields.

Required: At least eight (8) years of experience handling commercial general liability claims, preferably with a U.S. commercial insurer.

Required: A valid adjuster license in designated home state and the ability to obtain additional non-residential adjuster licenses.

A Plus: Senior Claim Law Associate (SCLA), Casualty Claim Law Associate (CCLA), Associate in Claims (AIC) and/or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designations.

Preferred: At least eight (8) years of commercial property/casualty claims handling experience with a U.S. commercial insurer, including experience with complex litigation of claims.

Preferred: At least eight (8) years of litigation management experience.

Preferred: Experience with Excess & Surplus Lines (E&S).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position is hybrid and requires the ability and the willingness to work in an IFG Companies office at least three (3) days per week if residing within a one-hour commuting distance.

Physical demands are considered those of a climate-controlled office environment with minimal physical exertion.

Position requires prolonged sitting, extensive utilization of computers and interactions with others in person and via phone.

Position requires the ability and the willingness to travel when required to meet business needs.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $120,000. Additionally, the position may be eligible to earn incentive compensation.
