American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) night shift position at a Level I Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring active NE or compact licensure and telemetry competency.

Work setting is an acute care hospital PCU (4th Floor East Wing) with 55 beds
-
Adult patient population; pediatric patients are rare and limited to ages 15 and older
-
Common diagnoses include CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, and generalized weakness
-
Common drips and medications include PCA pumps for pain management, Cardizem, and insulin
-
RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4 on both day and night shifts

12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)

Every other weekend required

Charting is done in Epic; experience required

IV pumps used: Alaris
-
Mechanical lifts are available in every other room
-
Floating may be required, primarily to med/surg areas based on unit need

Level I Trauma facility

Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted

Telemetry competency required

Epic EMR experience required

Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify permanent address

Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address

Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered

A pass/fail open-book exam is administered during orientation — a score of 90% or higher is required to pass; failure may result to contract termination

Navy blue scrubs required; CNAs wear ceil blue

Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them may result in contract termination

Unit support includes nursing assistants, a charge nurse, an educator, care managers, social workers, dieticians, and PT/OT staff

The unit emphasizes hourly rounding and responsiveness as part of patient experience goals

The team is described as collaborative and tight-knit, with an expectation that nurses can independently manage a busy day while supporting colleagues
