Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital provides specialized care for children and adolescents diagnosed with mental illness. We are looking for a positive and energetic Senior Staff Development Training Specialist who has an interest in assisting staff members with their development to maximize their potential.
Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital uses the Sanctuary Model to guide our interactions with our teammates and the care we provide to our consumers to promote healing, safety, and nonviolence. This is accomplished by following the Foundation of Sanctuary – The Four Pillars of (1) Trauma Theory, (2) Seven Commitments, (3) S.E.L.F. (Safety, Emotion, Loss, and Future), (4) Sanctuary Tool Kit.
Job Description
- This is a specialized professional training and development position accountable for developing and delivering training programs, administering assessments and certification requirements, providing coaching, and ensuring knowledge transfer. Employees train personnel in areas such as onboarding, computer training, professional development, supervisory training, e-learning and continuous improvement, using established educational requirements and job specific procedures and policies. Employees are responsible for short to medium-term objectives and outcomes and perform assignments under the general guidance and advice of a more experienced staff member or supervisor. Required to obtain and maintain active CPR and Pro-Act certifications to perform training responsibilities and support compliance with CMS and Joint Commission standards.
Knowledge, skills & abilities
- Knowledge of instructional methods, adult learning principles, and media used to deliver effective training.
- Demonstrated skills in training instruction, classroom presentation, facilitation, and competency assessment.
- Ability to develop, coordinate, and deliver educational programs for employees and maintain accurate training documentation.
- Ability to coach and provide educational support to individuals and groups in a classroom or clinical setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, including the ability to create, maintain, and organize training documents, spreadsheets, reports, and tracking tools.
- Ability to maintain and update electronic databases and tracking systems to ensure accurate employee compliance and training records.
- Ability to track CPR and ProAct certifications, including certification dates, expiration dates, required training, and due dates necessary for employees to obtain and maintain certification, and communicate compliance concerns to appropriate leadership.
- Ability to generate accurate reports and provide documentation demonstrating employee compliance with mandatory education and certification requirements.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and accuracy when handling employee training and compliance records.
- Ability to stay abreast of regulatory requirements, organizational training needs, and changes affecting employee education and competency.
- Strong organizational, communication, presentation, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Nursing, Staff Development, Human Resources, Employee Health, leadership, and other departments to support employee education and regulatory compliance.
Required Eligibility:
- A bachelor’s degree AND at least four to six years of relevant experience (substitutions may be allowed).
- Must be very detailed oriented, possess superior leadership, time management and written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be very proficient with Microsoft and other computer programs.
- Must be highly self-motivated, organized, and possess the ability to prioritize workload.
- Must be able to work independently and as a part of a cross-division team.

Responsibilities - What you’ll do
In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Knowledge of instructional design methods and development of necessary materials. Ability to make recommendations for training changes and implement them as approved.
