Warehouse Design Lead
Long-Term Contract Project | Puerto Rico
Candidates must currently reside in Puerto Rico to be considered for this position.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Warehouse Design Lead to own the development and coordination of warehouse design concepts, layouts, and specifications for large-scale industrial and pharmaceutical facilities. In this long-term contract role, you will oversee design execution across all phases — conceptual, basic, detailed design, and construction support — while ensuring alignment between warehouse design, site infrastructure, and overall facility strategy. Your expertise will integrate automation readiness, optimize material and personnel flow, and serve as the key technical interface across engineering, operations, quality, and construction teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Leadership: Lead the development and coordination of warehouse design concepts, layouts, and specifications; oversee design execution across all phases (conceptual, basic, detailed design, and construction support)
- Facility Alignment: Ensure alignment between warehouse design, site infrastructure, and overall facility strategy; coordinate with A/E firms and multidisciplinary teams to integrate all warehouse elements
- Layout Optimization: Define and optimize warehouse layouts, including receiving, storage, and shipping areas; cold storage, flammable storage, and quarantine zones; sampling, inspection, and support areas
- Flow & Automation Integration: Ensure design supports efficient flow of materials, personnel, and equipment; incorporate automation readiness (e.g., ASRS, AGVs, pallet systems) into layouts
- Automation Collaboration: Collaborate with automation and robotics teams to design automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), autonomous guided vehicle (AGV) pathways, and conveyor/pallet handling systems; ensure integration between warehouse systems and operational requirements
- Stakeholder Interface: Act as the key interface between Engineering (Process, Utilities, Facilities), Supply Chain/Warehouse Operations, Quality & Compliance teams, and Construction/commissioning teams; facilitate decision-making and information flow across stakeholders
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with GMP, safety, and regulatory standards, as well as corporate engineering and design standards; support development of design requirements and ensure adherence to approved design intent
- Schedule & Budget: Support development and management of design schedules and budget alignment for warehouse scope
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate design-related risks (e.g., constructability, equipment constraints)
- Construction & C&Q Support: Provide design support during construction and Commissioning & Qualification (C&Q); resolve design issues and coordinate design changes with project teams; ensure final design meets operational and performance requirements
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Supply Chain, or related field
- 8+ years of experience in industrial, pharmaceutical, or large-scale facility design, including warehouse or logistics facility design
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in GMP or regulated environments (pharma/biotech)
- Strong understanding of warehouse automation systems (ASRS, AGV, robotics) and material handling/flow optimization
- Experience with large capital projects (EPCM/Design-Build environments)
Why This Role
- Long-term stability – Multi-year contract commitment in Puerto Rico
- Leadership opportunity – Own warehouse design strategy across a full capital project lifecycle
- High-impact work – Shape facility design integrating automation, material flow, and regulatory compliance
