Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Insurance Coverage Attorney to provide expert legal advice and representation on insurance coverage issues and related litigation. The ideal candidate will evaluate policy language, advise insureds and carriers on coverage exposure, prepare coverage opinions, and defend or prosecute declaratory judgment and related actions. This role requires strong litigation experience, an ability to manage a diverse caseload, and clear communication with clients and claims teams.
Compensation: $200k - $275k base + 35% bonus potential + $2k monthly bonuses
Key Responsibilities

Analyze insurance policies and evaluate coverage issues across first-party and third-party claims, including general liability, professional liability, auto, property, and specialty lines.

Prepare clear, well-reasoned coverage opinions, reservation of rights letters, and coverage denial or acceptance correspondence.

Manage all phases of coverage litigation, including drafting complaints and answers, dispositive motions, discovery, hearings, and trial preparation.

Advise clients (insurers and/or insureds) on strategy related to coverage disputes, bad faith claims, allocation, extracontractual exposure, and indemnity obligations.

Collaborate with claims professionals, outside counsel and subject-matter experts to develop and implement litigation and litigation-avoidance strategies.

Research and stay current on statutory, regulatory, and case law developments affecting insurance coverage and litigation practice.

Negotiate settlements and articulate risk assessments to insurers and insureds to support informed decision-making.

Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and coordinate work with paralegals and outside counsel when needed.

Manage client communication, billing, and case documentation to maintain timely and accurate records.
Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the bar in the relevant state(s).

Licensed attorney in good standing; eligible for or currently admitted to practice in the state(s) where matters will be handled.

Minimum 3-5 years of experience practicing insurance coverage law and litigation; more senior candidates with substantial coverage and trial experience encouraged to apply.

Demonstrated experience drafting coverage opinions, reservation of rights letters, and handling declaratory judgment actions and bad faith defense.

Strong litigation skills, including motion practice, discovery management, depositions, and trial preparation.

Excellent legal research, writing and oral advocacy skills with the ability to explain complex coverage issues to claims professionals and clients.

Practical knowledge of insurance policy forms, allocation principles, reinsurance, subrogation, and indemnity agreements.

Proven ability to manage a varied caseload, prioritize deadlines, and work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Strong negotiation, interpersonal and client-service skills; experience mentoring junior lawyers is a plus.
