Job Summary
The Mechanic for Cosco, LLC d/b/a Cosco Fence & Guardrail (the “Company”) works at the direction of Manager – Fleet & Facilities (the “Manager”) to maintain and improve the daily and long-term physical condition of the fleet of vehicles and equipment as well as the facilities of the Company. This includes but is not limited to the light fleet, heavy fleet, trailers, pounders, and other mobile equipment. This role requires a “hands-on” approach that must prioritize safety in the execution of daily work.
This position requires clear and consistent written and verbal communication with internal and external resources, and a high degree of organization, documentation, accessibility, accountability, and coordination to ensure that all work is completed in a timely manner, and information is up to date and readily available to Management and other appropriate stakeholders. Finally, the role warrants a collaborative approach to build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, vendors, and all members of the Company.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and inspections on the Company's vehicles (light, medium and heavy-duty), trailers, construction equipment, and specialized fence and guardrail equipment including work on engines, braking systems, electrical systems, tires, exhaust and emissions-control systems, hydraulic systems, diesel particulate filter (DPF) and aftertreatment systems, and related components.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronic, engine, and emissions-system failures using appropriate testing equipment, computer diagnostic software, and manufacturer service information.
- Complete repairs safely, accurately, and efficiently to maximize equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and support field operations.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns in the shop, field, and roadside environments, providing timely diagnosis, service, and emergency repairs as needed.
- Maintain accurate and complete service records, repair documentation, inspection reports, and parts usage to support fleet maintenance activities.
- Inspect equipment for wear, damage, and potential failures, proactively identifying maintenance needs and communicating recommendations to the Manager.
- Perform required inspections and ensure vehicles and equipment comply with applicable safety, DOT, OSHA, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop, properly care for tools and equipment, and ensure compliance with all Company safety policies and procedures.
- Coordinate effectively with field personnel, vendors, parts suppliers, and other team members to obtain information, procure materials, and support timely completion of maintenance activities.
- Assist with the maintenance, repair, and general upkeep of Company facilities and property as directed, supporting a safe, functional, and well-maintained operating environment.
- Assist in the maintenance of accurate and organized records for fleet and facilities, including standardized naming and identification, detailed historic and projected maintenance schedules and procedures.
Experience/Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in diesel technology, heavy equipment, automotive technology, or a related field preferred.
- 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience maintaining and repairing diesel-powered trucks, trailers, and heavy construction equipment.
- Must own a set of tools required to perform day-to-day repairs or be able to acquire tools as needed.
- Knowledge of the proper selection and use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
- Basic welding knowledge preferred; knowledge of the safe and proper use of cutting torches required/preferred.
- Demonstrated experience diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, pneumatic systems, drivetrains, braking systems, suspension, and related components.
- Experience and proficiency using computer diagnostic software and electronic service tools, including JPRO, Cummins INSITE, and similar manufacturer diagnostic platforms.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to read technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic schematics.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
- Work is performed in office, manufacturing, warehouse, yard, and field environments while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), as applicable.
- Ability to safely lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work in shop and field environments.

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
