Job Overview
The Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist plays a vital role in empowering individuals with mental health diagnoses and disabilities to achieve meaningful employment and greater independence. This position provides vocational assessments, career counseling, job development, and employment support while collaborating with the clinical treatment team to help consumers meet their recovery and employment goals. The Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist serves as an advocate for consumers by developing relationships with community employers, identifying employment opportunities, and providing ongoing support to help consumers obtain and maintain competitive employment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct vocational assessments and functional/work capacity evaluations.
- Assist consumers with goal setting and individualized vocational plans.
- Provide career counseling and employment readiness support.
- Implement psychosocial rehabilitation interventions.
- Assist consumers in obtaining and maintaining employment.
- Develop relationships with local businesses and vocational service providers.
- Conduct community outreach to identify employment opportunities that match consumers' skills and abilities.
- Educate employers on the services and supports provided by the agency.
- Facilitate vocational and employment-related group sessions as needed.
- Document services accurately and in a timely manner in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Participate in daily treatment team meetings and collaborate with clinical staff.
- Monitor consumer progress and provide ongoing employment support.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, Counseling, Human Resources, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in vocational rehabilitation or a related field.
- Experience working with individuals with mental health diagnoses and/or disabilities.
- Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation principles, supported employment, and community resources.
- Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and clinical documentation.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical standards.
