Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Vibratory Plow Operator to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have experience with Vermeer RTX1250, PTX44, and mini excavator equipment.
In this role, you will be responsible for installing underground utility and fiber networks using heavy ride-on vibratory plow and excavation machinery. This is a hands-on position requiring a high level of operational expertise and attention to detail to ensure the safe and efficient deployment of infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate a Vermeer PTX44/RDX1250/mini excavator equipment to install underground telecommunications conduit and fiber infrastructure.
- Lead and supervise daily activities of underground construction crews.
- Read and interpret utility prints, construction plans, and locate markings.
- Coordinate with utility locators, inspectors, project managers, customers, and other contractors to ensure safe and efficient project completion.
- Ensure all work complies with company standards, customer specifications, and OSHA safety requirements.
- Verify proper installation depths, conduit placement, and restoration of disturbed areas.
- Maintain accurate daily production reports, equipment inspections, and job documentation.
- Train and mentor crew members while promoting a positive, productive work environment.
- Troubleshoot field issues and make sound decisions to keep projects on schedule.
- Perform routine maintenance, daily inspections, and minor repairs on equipment.
- Assist with hand digging, utility potholing, conduit placement, and restoration when equipment operation is not required.
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience operating a Vermeer PTX44 or similar pedestrian vibratory cable plow.
- Previous experience as a Foreman or Crew Leader in underground utility or telecommunications construction preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Class A CDL.
- Strong knowledge of underground utility construction practices and utility locating requirements.
- Ability to read construction prints, staking sheets, and utility locate markings.
- Experience installing telecommunications conduit and fiber optic infrastructure preferred.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and safe excavation practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and travel when required.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
