Job Duties
This role is responsible for designing custom landscaping solutions, creating accurate cost estimates, and managing client relationships. The Commercial Estimator will have expertise in landscape design, cost estimation, and vendor relations, with a strong attention to detail and a passion for delivering exceptional outdoor spaces. In addition to design and estimation, the role includes the completion of comprehensive job files for each project, which includes naming the job, compiling plans, and conducting an accurate take-off count of plants, mulch, irrigation, and other materials. The Estimator will gather vendor pricing, prepare proposals, and ensure all necessary items for job estimation are included in the established procedures. This role will also involve assisting the commercial division as needed, ensuring smooth project execution from start to finish.
Essential Job Function and Duties
· Produce detailed, accurate quantity take-offs for all materials, labor hours, and equipment required for each job.
· Ensure proposals are provided in a timely manner with the highest level of accuracy.
· Visit job sites during the bidding process when feasible to gather necessary information.
· Coordinate with vendors to secure competitive pricing for materials.
· Collaborate with commercial project team members to gather advice, recommendations, and any necessary information.
· Communicate professionally with general contractors, developers, architects, engineers, and owners.
· Foster strong, respectful relationships through effective communication and responsiveness.
· Provide clear and accurate proposals, including exclusions and detailed project scopes.
· Review project details, specifications, and drawings to ensure all information is correct and complete.
Job Functions (cont.)
· Verify plans, scale, and material requirements (including prevailing wage) during the take-off process.
· Maintain organized job files for all new projects, ensuring proper documentation of all plans and materials.
· Work closely with the commercial project manager to handle any change orders.
· Review scope of work, proposals, and plans with the project superintendent before project initiation, clarifying any potential issues.
· Develop and track annual sales goals based on previous year’s performance.
· Market and promote Legends Landscaping to city, county officials, general contractors, developers, and architects through emails, phone calls, events, and personal visits.
· Cultivate relationships outside of the company to enhance growth and recognition.
· Take on challenging designs to further develop expertise and knowledge in current landscaping materials and techniques.
· Educate oneself on new sales strategies, landscape trends, and efficient job completion methods.
· Keep the bid schedule updated, tracking awarded and non-awarded projects.
· Review contracts and insurance specifications during the bidding process.
· Update prevailing wage information yearly to ensure compliance.
· Order materials and supplies when necessary to stay on track with project timelines.
· Analyze completed project budgets to identify areas for improvement and streamline future estimates.
· Review contracts and project details with the team to ensure all exclusions and specifications are met.
Key Qualifications:
· Proven experience in landscape design and estimating, preferably for residential projects.
· Expertise in creating accurate estimates, reviewing contract details, and collaborating with project teams.
· Strong knowledge of landscape materials, labor costs, and industry standards.
· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients, vendors, and project teams.
· Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
· Proficiency with design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp) and Microsoft Office.
· Ability to handle challenging design concepts and adapt to evolving project needs.
· A background in horticulture, landscape architecture, or a related field is a plus
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $70,000 - $75,000 (DOE)

- 8-hour shift 7:40 am - 4:00 pm
- Monday to Friday
- Overtime possible
Experience:
- General Labor/Construction/Concrete Fabrication: 3 years (Minimum)
