Students attend school in dress code for 200 instructional days each year and benefit from an extended school day, providing additional opportunities for meaningful learning and academic growth.Position SummaryMystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable English Teacher to teach students in Grades 712.The successful candidate will inspire students through the study of literature, composition, grammar, and critical thinking while implementing the school's rigorous Core Knowledge curriculum and Great Books program. Depending on experience and school needs, teachers may also have the opportunity to teach within Mystic Valley's International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme at the high school level. The ideal candidate values academic rigor, thoughtful discussion, and the development of strong reading, writing, and analytical skills.Essential ResponsibilitiesPlan and deliver engaging English Language Arts instruction aligned with the Core Knowledge curriculum, Great Books program, and, when applicable, the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum.Teach five English classes daily while maintaining high academic expectations and a structured classroom environment.Develop lesson plans with clear learning objectives and meaningful assessments.Foster students' reading comprehension, analytical thinking, vocabulary development, grammar, and writing skills through literature-rich instruction.Assess student learning through essays, projects, quizzes, tests, classroom participation, and other formative and summative assessments.Maintain accurate grades, student records, progress reports, and report cards in accordance with school expectations.Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners while maintaining rigorous academic standards.Collaborate with English department colleagues to align curriculum, analyze student data, and share instructional best practices.Participate in faculty meetings, department meetings, professional development, and other required school activities.Communicate regularly with students and families regarding academic progress and classroom expectations.Support and uphold all school policies, procedures, and behavioral expectations.Perform additional duties as assigned by the English Department Chair or school leadership.QualificationsBachelor's degree in English, English Education, Literature, or a closely related field required; master's degree preferred.Massachusetts teaching license (or eligibility for licensure) preferred.Strong knowledge of literature, grammar, composition, and writing instruction.Experience teaching middle and/or high school English preferred.Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.Strong classroom management, organization, and instructional planning skills.Ability to engage students through discussion, close reading, and analytical writing.Commitment to implementing a rigorous curriculum with fidelity.Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families.Must obtain required Massachusetts educator licensure and pass applicable MTEL examinations within one year of employment.Compensation & BenefitsSalary: Competitive and commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications.Comprehensive benefits package.Professional development opportunities.Affordable housing option available with the position, if needed.Supportive and collaborative faculty committed to academic excellence.Equal Opportunity EmployerMystic Valley Regional Charter School is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
