Duties
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including dressing, grooming, and mobility, ensuring safety and comfort during treatment sessions
- Implement treatment plans designed by licensed occupational therapists, adapting techniques for clients with neurodevelopmental disorders, autism, disabilities, or age-related conditions such as geriatrics
- Support pediatric occupational therapy programs focused on childhood developmental delays and improving motor skills
- Facilitate patient transport within healthcare facilities or home health settings while maintaining proper manual handling techniques
- Document care activities accurately in care records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards
- Collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals to develop and modify care plans based on patient progress and needs
- Engage in patient and caregiver communication to explain therapy goals, progress updates, and home exercise routines for continued success outside clinical settings
Qualifications
- Valid certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) from an accredited program
- Prior experience working in inpatient settings, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, or home health environments is highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of physiology and anatomy relevant to occupational therapy practices
- Experience assisting with ADLs and implementing treatment plans for clients with neurodevelopmental disorders or disabilities
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical imaging procedures, and care documentation standards
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages—including pediatrics—and their caregivers or families
- Demonstrated manual handling skills and competence in patient transport within clinical or home health contexts
- Acute care experience is a plus, along with outpatient or clinic experience in pediatric occupational therapy or occupational health settings
