Job Summary
The Home Care Caregiver provides non-medical homemaker and companion services to clients in their homes, Assisted Living Facilities or Rehabilitation Facilities in accordance with Florida law and Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) regulations. Services are designed to support the client’s safety, comfort, dignity, and ability to remain at home while following the client’s service plan and agency policies.
This position does not provide skilled nursing or medical services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Companion Services (Florida-Allowed)
- Provide companionship and social interaction
- Engage clients in conversation, reading, games, and activities
- Accompany clients on walks or outings (as authorized)
- Observe and report changes in client condition or environment
Homemaker Services (Florida-Allowed)
- Light housekeeping (laundry, dishes, dusting, vacuuming)
- Simple meal preparation and assistance with meal setup
- Grocery shopping and essential errands (if authorized)
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly home environment
Personal Assistance (Non-Medical)
- Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, and hygiene
- Assist with toileting and incontinence care
- Assist with mobility, transfers, and ambulation
- Assist with eating and hydration (no tube feeding)
Safety and Observation
- Monitor for fall risks and unsafe conditions
- Immediately report incidents, injuries, or changes in condition
- Follow emergency procedures and infection control guidelines
- Protect client rights, dignity, and confidentiality at all times
Documentation and Compliance (AHCA Required)
- Accurately document services provided and observations for each visit
- Complete visit notes in the agency’s approved documentation system
- Follow the client’s service plan exactly as authorized
- Comply with all agency policies, Florida statutes, and AHCA rules
Scope of Practice – Florida Compliance
Caregivers may NOT perform the following under Florida law:
- Skilled nursing services
- Medication administration (unless specifically permitted by law and agency policy)
- Medication management or medication setup
- Injections, wound care, or medical treatments
- Medical assessments or clinical decision-making
Caregivers must immediately report any request for prohibited services to the agency.
Qualifications Required (Florida/AHCA)
- Ability to pass Level 2 background screening per Florida law
- Completion of AHCA-required training and in-service education
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license (if required by assignment)
- Ability to follow written care plans and agency procedures
Preferred
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous homemaker, companion, or caregiving experience
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 25–50 lbs with assistance
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist clients safely
- Ability to perform duties in varied home environments
Work Environment
- Private residences and community settings
- May include exposure to pets, smoke, or varying cleanliness conditions

Caregivers must comply with HIPAA, client rights laws, and agency confidentiality policies. Professional appearance, respectful communication, and ethical conduct are required at all times.
