Position Summary
The Lead Electrician is a working field leader responsible for directing Electrician Trainees and coordinating daily electrical installation activities on commercial fueling-station and convenience-store projects. The role converts the project plan into daily execution, assigns and supervises work, trains trainees, performs hands-on electrical work, coordinates with project stakeholders, and verifies compliance with safety, quality, code, and company requirements.
The Superintendent retains overall accountability for project schedule, labor performance, safety, quality, profitability, and completion. The Lead Electrician influences these results through effective field planning, crew leadership, productivity, material coordination, quality control, site compliance, and timely communication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Review project plans, specifications, scope, schedules, labor assumptions, and material requirements; convert them into daily and weekly work plans.
· Plan and adjust work sequencing, establish priorities, and assign tasks based on project needs, trainee skill level, and required supervision.
· Perform commercial electrical work alongside the crew and keep employees productive when scheduled work is delayed or unavailable.
· Identify labor, material, equipment, access, inspection, and scheduling needs; promptly report delays, shortages, conflicts, changed conditions, and project risks to the Superintendent.
· Attend kickoff, preconstruction, and site coordination meetings and coordinate with customers, general contractors, inspectors, utilities, vendors, fuel-system installers, concrete crews, and other trades.
· Communicate shutdown, access, delivery, inspection, and sequencing requirements without making unauthorized commitments involving schedule, scope, or additional cost.
· Verify material deliveries; maintain redlines, progress photographs, daily reports, and documentation of concealed work, changed conditions, and potential extra work.
· Request inspections, coordinate correction work, and manage field punch-list and closeout activities.
· Obtain authorization before proceeding with out-of-scope work.
Electrical Work
Lead, perform, or delegate commercial electrical work involving:
· Temporary power, mobilization, underground conduit, trenching, stub-ups, and grounding.
· Fuel-dispenser and fueling-system electrical; canopy lighting; convenience-store lighting, power, panels, and branch circuits.
· Services, switchgear, transformers, meter sections, generators, backup power, EV charging, controls, emergency and shutdown circuits, and low-voltage raceways or wiring.
· Utility shutdowns and energization, testing, troubleshooting, startup, commissioning, and remodel work at active operating locations.
Delegation: Work may be delegated to Electrician Trainees based on demonstrated ability. The Lead Electrician remains responsible for instruction, supervision, inspection, and quality control.
Trainee Leadership
· Assign and explain daily work; demonstrate unfamiliar or complex tasks; teach installation methods, code requirements, company standards, and safe work practices.
· Monitor work, inspect completed installations, correct poor workmanship, and address attendance, conduct, productivity, and performance concerns.
· Evaluate trainee skill levels, determine the appropriate level of supervision, provide coaching, and communicate development or performance concerns to the Superintendent.
· Recommend promotion, additional training, discipline, reassignment, or termination; remove a trainee from a task or jobsite when necessary for safety, conduct, quality, or performance.
Safety and Quality
· Verify day-to-day jobsite compliance with company safety requirements and applicable regulations.
· Identify hazards; conduct required pre-task discussions; verify PPE and compliance with lockout/tagout, fall protection, trench, ladder, lift, tool, and equipment requirements.
· Stop unsafe work immediately and report incidents, near misses, hazards, or unresolved concerns to the Superintendent.
· Maintain a clean, orderly site and verify safe operations around active fueling stations, operating stores, vehicles, customers, and the public.
· Inspect work before it is concealed, backfilled, connected, or energized; verify compliance with drawings, specifications, the NEC, local codes, manufacturer requirements, and company standards.
· Prevent rework through active supervision and quality checks; correct deficiencies and verify readiness for inspection, testing, startup, and turnover.
Energized work: Prohibited without prior authorization. The Lead Electrician must contact the Superintendent and obtain permission before performing or directing energized work.
Administrative Division of Responsibility
The Lead Electrician verifies field conditions and site compliance and provides accurate, timely information. The Superintendent is responsible for trainee timecards in FieldServio, labor tracking, completion reporting, formal safety paperwork, and other formal project documentation.

Minimum Qualifications
· Five years of electrical-construction experience, including five years of commercial electrical experience.
· Two years of supervisory, foreman, crew-lead, or comparable leadership experience.
· High school diploma or GED; valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
· Ability to read electrical drawings, specifications, panel schedules, and one-line diagrams.
· Working knowledge of the NEC and applicable local codes; ability to size conduit, conductors, overcurrent protection, and electrical equipment.
· Ability to troubleshoot commercial electrical systems and experience with service equipment, switchgear, transformers, generators, controls, and fuel-related electrical systems.
· Ability to lead, train, evaluate, and hold field employees accountable.
Preferred Qualifications
California General Electrician certification; OSHA 10 or OSHA 30; First Aid/CPR; NFPA 70E training; and fueling-station or convenience-store construction experience. Certification and fueling experience are preferred, not required.
Travel, Tools, and Physical Requirements
· Regular travel throughout Northern and Central California; occasional overnight travel, early starts, and overtime.
· Company vehicle provided. Employee supplies required personal hand tools; company supplies power tools and specialty equipment.
· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb ladders and work from aerial lifts; stand, walk, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, reach, and work outdoors in varying conditions.
· Ability to work safely around active construction sites, fueling stations, operating stores, vehicles, customers, and the public.
Performance Expectations
Success includes safe and code-compliant work, minimal rework, successful inspections, effective crew leadership, trainee development, timely communication, accurate material planning, professional customer interactions, organized jobsites, and effective punch-list and closeout management.
The Superintendent is directly accountable for project profitability. The Lead Electrician influences profitability through productivity, trainee utilization, material control, installation quality, reduction of rework, and early communication of project risks.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position is performed in a fabrication shop environment and may require standing, bending, lifting, and operating machinery for extended periods.
