GRADE 9 Starting hourly wage is $22.89 - $23.93 depending on education and/or experience

SUMMARY:
The Nurse Health Assistant, under the supervision of the school/lead nurse, provides student health care services, basic nursing care, and performs clerical duties related to the health center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides first aid and emergency care to students as directed by standard operating procedures.

Dispenses daily medications, except injectables, to students following established procedures; distributes over the counter medications to staff and students as appropriate.

Recommends next level of care such as calling EMT's and sending students or staff to the hospital, urgent care, or home.

Documents all care provided to students. Maintains and updates accurate, confidential, and appropriate medical records, following the established procedures, and verifies immunizations as required by state statutes.

Communicates necessary medical information in a timely manner to appropriate school personnel, parents/guardians, and school/lead nurse while maintaining confidentiality. Contacts parents or guardians regarding student health of well-being or to obtain further information about students' conditions.

Assists with state mandated screenings.

Contributes to the development and implementation of health care plans. Assists in maintaining a safe and healthful school environment by identifying and reporting safety or environmental concerns.

Maintains emergency procedures information for students and staff.

Covers at other campuses for nurse substitute coverage.

Cleans and sanitizes health office and equipment; order's supplies as needed.

Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High School diploma or GED equivalent; Two-year technical certificate as a Medical Assistant or in a related field; AND two years of clinical or health care experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
License and Certification Requirements:
A valid Arizona State Driver's License and reliable transportation is required.
Must possess CPR and First Aid Certifications or obtain certifications within six months of hire.
EMT or CNA licensing is preferred.
Possess an active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card or obtain one within the first 90 workdays of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a campus health care office and requires exposure to bodily fluids, blood borne pathogens, and contagious illnesses. May be required to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
