The Food Truck Cashier / Line Cook is responsible for delivering excellent customer service while also preparing and cooking menu items in a fast-paced food truck environment. This position combines front-of-house cashier duties with back-of-house line cook responsibilities, requiring strong multitasking skills, attention to food quality, and the ability to work efficiently during high-volume service periods.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Cashier Duties
- Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Take food and beverage orders accurately.
- Process cash, credit/debit card, and mobile payments.
- Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system efficiently.
- Answer customer questions regarding menu items, ingredients, and specials.
- Package orders correctly and verify accuracy before serving customers.
Line Cook & Food Preparation Duties
- Prepare and cook menu items according to recipes and company standards.
- Grill, fry, sauté, assemble, and finish food orders during service.
- Maintain proper food temperatures and cooking procedures.
- Prepare ingredients for service, including chopping vegetables, portioning meats, making sauces, and restocking the line.
- Monitor inventory levels and notify management of low stock items.
- Ensure food presentation meets quality standards.
Sanitation & Team Support
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the food truck, kitchen equipment, and service areas.
- Wash dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment as needed.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
- Assist with opening and closing duties, including setting up the cooking line, cleaning equipment, and reconciling the cash drawer.
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure fast, accurate, and efficient service.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in food service, cashiering, or line cooking is preferred.
- Basic cash-handling and math skills.
- Knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen safety practices.
- Ability to multitask in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Stand for extended periods of time.
- Lift and carry up to 25–50 pounds.
- Work in a hot kitchen and outdoor environment.
- Perform repetitive tasks such as cooking, assembling orders, and operating kitchen equipment.
Preferred Certifications
- Food Handler Certification (required if mandated by local regulations).
- Experience operating commercial kitchen equipment and POS systems.
