Medical Receptionist
Carriage Hill Family Care is seeking a dependable, professional Medical Receptionist to join our front-office team. This position plays an important role in the patient experience and is responsible for helping patients in person and by phone, scheduling appointments, checking patients in, verifying insurance information, collecting payments, and supporting the day-to-day operation of a busy medical practice.
We are willing to train the right person. Previous medical-office experience is helpful but is not required for a strong candidate who is dependable, organized, comfortable working with the public, and able to learn quickly.
Schedule
Applicants must be available to work:
- Monday-Friday, 7:45 AM-5:00 PM
- Every other Saturday, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM
Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential for this position.
Primary Responsibilities
- Answer and manage incoming calls using a multi-line phone system.
- Schedule, reschedule, and manage patient appointments.
- Greet and check in patients promptly and professionally.
- Verify and update patient demographics, contact information, and insurance information.
- Run insurance eligibility checks.
- Collect copays, account balances, and other patient payments by cash or credit card.
- Open, close, and balance the cash drawer.
- Open and process incoming mail, including payments received by mail.
- Greet vendors and visitors and verify credentials when appropriate.
- Direct patient questions and calls to the appropriate staff member.
- Maintain accurate patient information in the electronic medical record.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and clinic policies.
- Cross-train in other front-office functions and help provide coverage when coworkers are absent.
- Assist other team members as needed during busy periods.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Office Manager.

- Able to multitask and prioritize. You must be able to determine what needs immediate attention while continuing to manage routine responsibilities.
- A clear communicator. You should be able to communicate professionally by phone, in person, and in writing.
- A team player. Our staff members help one another when patient volume is high or coverage is needed.
- Able to maintain confidentiality. You will regularly have access to private patient and medical information.
- Willing to learn. We value employees who want to develop additional medical-office skills and take on greater responsibility over time.
Education and Experience
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
- Ability to accurately handle cash and electronic payments.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, coworkers, and outside organizations.
- Ability to work the required schedule.
Preferred but not required:
- Previous experience in a medical office, dental office, pharmacy, banking, hospitality, customer service, or another fast-paced position involving frequent interaction with the public.
- Experience with appointment scheduling or insurance verification.
- Experience using an electronic medical record or similar computer system.
- Experience using a multi-line telephone system.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook or similar applications.

Physical Requirements
This position primarily involves seated office work with frequent computer and telephone use. The employee will also periodically stand, walk, reach, and move throughout the clinic and must occasionally be able to lift or move up to 10 pounds.
