We are a small family owned and operated business that has manufactured metal roofing panels and trim for Do It Yourselfers, Handymen, and General Contractors for over 30 years in Plant City, FL. Our sheet metal fabricators run the manufacturing machines in an open-air warehouse. This position is for a FORKLIFT OPERATOR, who will primarily load orders of roofing panels and trim for customers. Various other tasks will also be assigned: moving large metal coils, strapping and tagging orders, unpacking metal coils, unloading 9,000 lb metal coils from large semi-trucks, putting away supply inventory, shop clean up, etc. Prior sheet metal fabrication and/or roofing knowledge helpful but not required. Once established, future growth opportunities to learn the rollformer and trim shop equipment will be available.
Although a fast-paced environment, this is also a laid back company with a knowledgeable staff that works well together as a team. Starting pay is $16-$18 an hour depending on experience, forklift certification, etc. Will conduct performance evaluation after first 90 days for a end of training bonus and a possible pay increase if demonstrating strong ability and knowledge.
Work schedule is Monday - Saturday, 8-10 hour day shifts. Monday - Friday we're open 7 am - 5 pm, Saturdays we're open 8 am - 2 pm. Rotating Saturdays are required.
Duties
- Primary responsibility as a forklift operator – unloading up to 9,000 lb metal coils, loading metal roofing panels onto customer vehicles, moving various other heavy items from location to location on property using a forklift.
- Comfortable moving wide and heavy loads with a forklift through various obstacles in the shop and parking lot.
- Once order has been transported to the customer’s vehicle, forklift operator will either load onto vehicle via the forklift or by hand, depending on the order and vehicle. Must be comfortable handling metal panels that are 3 ft wide and up to 35+ feet long.
- Unloading and putting away accessory inventory (boxes of screws, tarps, caulking, tacky tape, etc.)
- Assist Metal Fabrication team members as needed (strapping and tagging orders, unpackaging coils, moving coils around, shop clean-up, pulling inventory for sales office, etc
- Operate forklifts and other heavy equipment to load and unload materials from trucks and storage areas.
- Assist in receiving processes, ensuring accurate documentation and timely delivery of goods.
- Ensure all orders being loaded are accurate and meet our quality control standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to OSHA safety standards at all times.
- Future tasks will include learning the rollformer and trim shop equipment.
Requirements:
- 2 yrs minimum experience operating a forklift for heavy loads
- Sufficient strength to lift 50lbs without assistance
- Must know how to read a tape measure
- Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Pass a drug test
- Reliable transportation is a must
- Able to withstand the outside working environments of Florida with prolonged activity.
- Will be required to take our own forklift certification class for our insurance purposes. Course will be taken during work hours and we will pay the course fee.

- Comfortable talking with Customers while loading vehicles
- Strong work ethic (show up on time, minimal time called out, stay off your phone during shift, etc.)
- Individuals with roofing knowledge and terminology a plus, but not required
